Florida International University signed a $12 million lease to establish a 32,000-square-foot campus in downtown Miami.
The public university signed the 10-year lease with Florida East Coast Realty for three floors at 1101 Brickell Ave. Starting in the fall, it will house programs of FIU’s College of Business Administration, School of International and Public Affairs and the Metropolitan Center. The Metropolitan Center is currently at 150 S.E. Second Ave. in downtown Miami, and FIU offers graduate-level classes in the Macy’s building. It will leave those locations.
The new facility could house 1,000 students when it opens.
“We are making a significant commitment to the downtown area because our students and alumni tell us they need greater access to evening graduate programs near their offices,” FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg said in a news release. “From the onset, FIU Downtown on Brickell will be a place where leaders on the international stage come to hone their skills.”
