As FIU build-out on Brickell nears end, some classes begin

The build-out of FIU Downtown on Brickell, Florida International University’s new Brickell location, is about 95% complete and some classes have already begun.

The center is to welcome many of its students when the fall semester begins and a grand opening is scheduled September 16.

The 32,000-square-foot, three-floor facility at the office complex 1101 Brickell Ave. is to house annexes of FIU’s College of Business Administration and the School of International and Public Affairs plus the Metropolitan Center, an applied social research and training institute that focuses on economic development, housing and land use.

About 200 students are registered to attend the Brickell center so far, and FIU expects 350 to 400 by the start of classes, said Claudio Pico, director of finance and administration for the business college.
