Wendy Gelman has been promoted to senior instructor.

Department of Marketing

Two articles by John Tsalikis, BMI associate professor of marketing, will be included in a 2012 30th anniversary commemorative issue of The Journal of Business Ethics, the leading academic publication in the area of business ethics. The 50 selections were based on the number of times the article has been referenced in other articles. Tsalikis is one of only five authors who have more than one article appearing in the commemorative issue.

Tim Dugan Birrittella was promoted to senior instructor.

Department of Finance and Real Estate

Deanne Butchey, senior lecturer, was quoted in an article titled “More women than men seek help with personal debt, credit counselors find,” which appeared in the Orlando Sentinel on July 21, 2011.

William Hardin, professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, was quoted in an article titled “With stock market drop, council president tells town manager to find savings for 2012-13,” which appeared in the Palm Beach Daily News on August 9, 2011. He also was interviewed on WLRN on August 10, 2011.

Ken H. Johnson, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, wrote an entry for the KCM Blog titled “A Rose By Any Other Name . . . Might Be Worth More” on August 3, 2011. Also, he was referenced or quoted in several articles: on August 5, 2011, he was cited in “Home ownership hits lowest level since 1965” on CNN Money and in another article that ran the same day in the Chicago Tribune. On August 16, 2011, he was quoted in an article titled “Buying is cheaper than renting in most U.S. cities,” on CNN Money and on August 18, 2011, he was quoted in the article “Rate on 30-year mortgage falls to lowest on record,” which appeared in the Chicago Tribune.

Adjunct Marcos A. Kerbel, was quoted in an article titled “Florida bankers watching, not worrying,” which appeared in MiamiHerald.com on July 29, 2011.

Deanne Butchey has been promoted to senior lecturer and James Keys and Helen Simon have been promoted to senior instructor.

Alexander Saldarriaga has joined the department as an adjunct.

Department of Management and International Business

Ed Glab, clinical professor of business and director of the Global Energy Security Forum in FIU’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), was quoted in an article titled “Bachmann’s Everglades drilling comment doesn’t resonate in Florida,” which appeared in Minnesota Public Radio News on August 29, 2011.

Jerry Haar, associate dean for international affairs and projects, professor and research fellow, was quoted in “Miami’s Football Scandal Clouds the Progress of a School and a City,” which appeared on Time.com on August 17, 2011 and in “7% jumps in Miami-Dade hotel occupancy, room rates forecast,” an article in the Miami Today edition for the week of August 25, 2011.

Sumit Kundu, professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, was a track chair for the “Global Strategy, Alliances and Competitiveness” track at the annual Academy of International Business (AIB) conference in Nagoya, Japan from June 26-29, 2011. Also, he presented three papers at the conference and received the “Best Paper Award” for the “Emerging Markets Track” for his co-authored paper “The Influence of Technology Characteristics on the Choice of Full versus Partial Acquisition in Emerging Markets.”

“Decoding Intuition for More Effective Decision-Making,” by Modesto A. Maidique, FIU president emeritus, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, and executive director, FIU Center for Leadership, was published on the Harvard Business Reviews Blog Network on August 15, 2011. It samples his ongoing research in the area of leadership decision-making, and in particular the impact of intuition and gut instinct on how CEOs decide.

Dileep Rao, clinical professor, was quoted in “Office supply sales surge with online push,” which appeared in the Star Tribune on July 31, 2011.

Donald Roomes has been promoted to senior instructor and David Wernick has been promoted to senior lecturer.

Ruth Torres has joined the department as an adjunct.

Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems

Monica Chiarini Tremblay, assistant professor, was quoted in an article titled “Health Information Technology,” which ran in the Sun Sentinel on August 17, 2011 and which also mentioned the college’s new master’s degree and certificate program in health information technology. On August 27, 2011, she was quoted in a Sun Sentinel article titled “Five hot career programs to make you more employable in South Florida.”

Nicole Wishart has been promoted to senior instructor.
