A deal involving a well-known rum cake company has been cooked up, just in time for the holidays.
The shareholders of Miami-based Tortuga Imports, Cayman Islands-based Tortuga Rum Company Ltd., Florida Tortuga CRC Jamaica Ltd. and Tortuga Barbados/Baker’s Choice have consolidated their regional interests into a new international food group, Tortuga International Holdings Ltd., a news release said.
At the same time, Jamaica Producers Group Ltd., an established international specialty foods group, has made a strategic investment in Tortuga International, the release said. The goal is to use JP’s international experience in specialty foods to make Tortuga more of a global brand.
The founders of Tortuga Imports will lead the new company, with Marcus Simmonds as CEO and Monique Hamaty-Simmonds as the chief marketing officer of Tortuga International. The board of Tortuga International includes representatives from each of its operating subsidiaries in the Cayman Islands, Miami and Barbados, as well as Jamaica Producers Group.
