Women Executive Leadership to Partner with Florida International University on 2012 Census

Women Executive Leadership (WEL), South Florida’s leading advocate for the advancement of professional women, has formed a partnership with Florida International University to develop its 2012 census of corporate director and executive officers in Florida’s top 100 public companies.

The census serves as an eye-opening look at women’s progress in the corporate culture. Conducted on a bi-annual basis, the Census takes an eye-opening look at the status and number of women who hold positions on board of directors and executive suites, as ranked by Florida Trend Magazine. The two organizations will work together in developing the Census, and on reporting progress among women in their attainment of director positions. The 2010 census showed that women are poorly represented on Florida corporate boards.

“The College of Business Administration is committed to fostering the professional development of women,” said Dr. Joyce Elam, executive dean of the College of Business Administration at FIU. “Each year, through our Center for Leadership, we offer a leadership development program for women executives and conduct an annual survey of women entrepreneurs. Partnering with WEL to promote and celebrate the participation of women on public corporate boards is another way that we can help women achieve their leadership potential.”
