Department of Marketing

Ronald Mesia, instructor and director of the Ryder Center for Supply Chain Management, and Anthony D. Miyazaki, chair and professor, were quoted in an article entitled “Rise of Logistics Technology – Florida International University” by Eric Williams and Robert Christensen, which appeared in the Summer 2015 edition of Cargo Focus, the official publication of Cargo Network Services (CNS).

Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems

Monica E. Tremblay, chair and associate professor, was selected to be a guest editor for an upcoming issue of JAMIA (Journal of the American Informatics Association), the premier journal for medical informatics. The issue is “Special Focus Issue on Health Informatics Education.” The publication date has not been determined.

Also, she was a panelist discussing “The Importance of Cyber Security” at the 17th annual Shared Ownership Investment Conference, September 20- October 2, 2015, in Miami Beach, Florida.

Department of Finance

Shahid S. Hamid, chair and director of the Laboratory for Insurance, Financial and Economic Research at FIU’s International Hurricane Research Center, presented his research to a visiting delegation from Lloyds of London, the world’s largest reinsurance company.

Department of Management and International Business

Jerry Harr, professor, wrote an op-ed piece for the Miami Herald entitled “Tell the truth about free trade” which appeared September 2, 2015.

Samantha C. Paustian-Underdahl, assistant professor, was quoted in a Miami Herald column by Cindy Krischer Goodman entitled “Work/Life Balancing Act: Managing a personal life — under the radar” which appeared September 22, 2015.

Juan I. Sanchez, professor and Knight-Ridder Byron Harless Eminent Chair in Management, served as an invited speaker at the 2015 HR Florida Conference & Expo, held in Orlando, Florida, August 30-September 2, 2015. He presented his session, “Put your 20th Century Talent Management Model to Rest: Introducing Person Centric Work Analysis” on September 1. He received a 6,000 Euro-travel grant from the European Union’s Erasmus Foundation to participate as an invited speaker at the Erasmus Mundus-sponsored Master’s in Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology master’s program, to be held in October 2015 at the University of Valencia. Sanchez also has been invited by two universities in Spain to deliver talks in December 2015: at The Count of Campomanes Institute at Universidad Carlos III of Madrid to deliver a talk entitled “Publishing in English-Speaking Refereed Journals: Lessons Learned” and by the School of Labor Relations at the Universidad of Santiago de Compostela to deliver “Work Analysis and Strategic Competency Modeling.

Hock-Peng Sin, assistant professor, co-authored “Investigating the uniqueness and usefulness of proactive personality in organizational research: A meta-analytic review” which appeared in the August 2015 issue of Human Performance.
