Accounting

Associate Professor Antoinette Smith has been appointed to the board of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy. Smith was also named one of Miami’s Top Black Educators 2017 by Legacy Miami magazine, published July 17, 2017.

Finance

Department Chair Shahid Hamid was quoted in a story titled “In booming South Florida, another Hurricane Andrew could be a $300 billion catastrophe” that ran in USA Today, August 22, 2017.

Associate Professor Mustafa Caglayan co-authored a paper titled “Upside Potential of Hedge Funds as a Predictor of Future Performance,” accepted for presentation at the 2018 American Finance Association meetings.

Department of Management & International Business

Clinical Professor Jerry Haar co-authored an article titled “Good corporate citizenry, no longer a choice but a necessity” that appeared in Latin Trade magazine, August 15, 2017. Haar also authored a column titled “Trump hates NAFTA, but it has made Florida a jobs winner,” which ran in the Miami Herald, July 31, 2017.

Professor Juan I. Sanchez was interviewed on CNN en Español in a segment titled “Google – Diversidad o Intolerancia,” on CNN Dinero, August 17, 2017. Sanchez was also interviewed on CNN en Español in a segment titled “Lo que tienes que saber para ser un buen manager,” on CNN Dinero, August 29, 2017.

Associate Professor Ronaldo Parente recently presented a paper titled “Creativity as a high-level resource in the international involvement of the firm,” at the annual Academy of International Business meeting held in Dubai, July 2-5, 2017, for which the authors received the “That’s Interesting” Best Paper Award and a $1,000 prize. Parente also was named an associate editor of the Cross Cultural & Strategic Management journal.

Assistant Professor Curba Morris Lampert co-authored a paper titled “When Dinosaurs Fly: The Role of Firm Capabilities in the ‘Avianization’ of Incumbents during Disruptive Technological Change,” which has been accepted for publication by the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. Lampert has also been appointed to the editorial board of the Strategic Management Journal.

Adjunct Lecturer Jaime Franco was interviewed for a segment titled “Uber, ¿en problemas?” on CNN en Español on July 12, 2017.

Assistant Professor Samantha C. Paustian-Underdahl, and MIB PhD student Cynthia Halliday, co-authored a paper titled “Autonomy as a Key Resource for Women in Low Gender Egalitarian Countries: A Cross-Cultural Examination,” accepted for publication in Human Resource Management. Paustian-Underdahl also presented a study titled “Pregnancy Discrimination is a Family Affair: Changes in Women’s Career Attitudes due to Discrimination depend on Spousal Support,” at the 2017 Academy of Management conference, in Atlanta, Ga., August 4-8.

Department of Marketing and Logistics

Assistant Professor William F Humphrey, Jr., was interviewed for “The Teachers’ Lounge,” HubSpot’s podcast for the Education Partner Program, August 10, 2017.

Instructor Nancy Richmond was quoted in a story titled “We’re all teched up if the Big One strikes” that ran in the Miami Herald, August 21, 2017.

Associate Professor Alexandra V. Aguirre-Rodriguez was quoted in a story titled “Cool Credit Cards: Best Terms, Designs & Trends” in WalletHub, August 11, 2017.

Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate

Director William G. Hardin was quoted in a story titled “Damaging storms draw attention to flooding concerns in Miami’s business district” that ran in the South Florida Business Journal, August 29, 2017.
