Get a financial workout at Business Plan Bootcamp.

Dreaming of starting your own business? Want to get a head-start on The Miami Herald Business Plan Challenge? Then take advantage of the opportunity to attend a Business Plan Bootcamp on Wednesday Jan. 20 at The Miami Herald Building, One Herald Plaza, Miami.

The Business Plan Challenge, presented by Florida International University, kicks off Feb. 15. This year there will be three tracks: one for the community at large; another for FIU students, faculty, staff and alums; and a third for high school students that will be judged by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

The evening bootcamp will give you the tools you need not only to prepare a first-rate Business Plan Challenge entry but also to put together a comprehensive plan for launching a business.

Keynote speaker is Melissa Krinzman, founder and managing director of Venture Architects, which helps capital-seeking private companies develop business plans, financial projections and presentations for investors.

The annual Entrepreneur Challenge Business Plan Competition is designed to provide a platform for FIU affiliates (including students, faculty, staff and alumni) to showcase new ideas, while providing a forum to attract investment for their business models. The business model must prove itself to have breadth and sustainability; as well as demonstrate that it possesses, or can acquire, the resources to actually launch and be viable. Since 2004, the Pino Center has recognized approximately fifty-five noteworthy student business plans that have received a cash gift and have launched new ventures. This year, the Pino Center and the FIU’s College of Business have joined forces with The Miami Herald, and for the first time the Pino Center will be the naming sponsor for the Miami Herald’s Business Plan Challenge.

The Miami Herald Business Plan Competition, presented by the Pino Global Entrepreneurship Center, will offer two tracks for the competition: one open only to FIU affiliates and a second track open to the South Florida community at large.
