In its latest national recognition, Florida International University’s (FIU) College of Business has received a top ranking for its graduate program for human resources management.

#2 for the Masters Program with Emphasis on HRHR.com ranked the Master of Science in Human Resource Management #2 for the Masters Program with Emphasis on HR in its 2016 Leadership Excellence Awards, released last week.

HR.com’s recognition reflects the excellence of faculty, the quality of our students and our curricular innovations,” said Marc Weinstein, director of the 12-month Master of Science in Human Resource Management program and clinical professor, Department of Management & International Business.

“This achievement has been years in the making, with our recruitment of world-class faculty that provide our students with the skills needed to be leaders in the the HR field.”

Admission to the program is highly competitive, Weinstein said, with nearly four applicants for every space. He also noted that entering students average seven years of professional experience.

That strong level of expertise, combined with active mentoring from the local HR community and insights students receive in the classroom, recently contributed to a first-place finish for the graduate program’s case competition team at the HR Florida conference in January.

Since its founding in 2002, 450 students have completed the MSHRM program. Most of these students have remained in the Miami area, with many ascending to leadership positions in their organizations. Graduates also serve the profession and the community, Weinstein said, holding leadership positions in the Greater Miami Society of Human Resource Management (GMSHRM), the Miami Chamber of Commerce, and numerous other civic organizations. Strong support from program alumni and the wider HR community has opened additional opportunities for students and graduates of the program.

HR.com also delivered a #1 ranking for FIU’s Center for Leadership, led by College of Business associate professor and Knight Ridder Research Fellow Nathan Hiller. The program took the top spot for Open Enrollment – Continuing Education with an Emphasis on Leadership, besting well-known programs at Wharton, Carnegie Melon and Boston University.

“We are gratified that for the second time in three years, HR.com has ranked FIU’s Center for Leadership as the top program of its kind,” Hiller said. “I’m also thrilled that the contributions of so many people, including many College of Business faculty members, have been recognized.”

The Center for Leadership’s programs specialize in helping leaders develop new behavioral skills and self-insight, with a sharp focus on providing concrete strategies to put new insights to immediate use in participants’ leadership roles.
