Tropical Storm Elsa update: FIU libraries will close at 6 p.m. Sunday as a precaution

Hurricane Update

Tropical Storm Elsa

At FIU, we continue to monitor Tropical Storm Elsa, which was downgraded from hurricane status this morning. The university’s emergency operations center remains activated.

Although it is still unclear how the storm will impact our region, as a precaution, both the Green and Hubert libraries will close at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, and will remain closed on Monday, July 5, for the holiday. In addition, the Curative COVID-19 testing stations on campus will be closed on Monday, July 5.

This is a good time to make sure you and your family have several days’ worth of supplies and medicines. Please monitor local media and pay attention to updates from the National Hurricane Center throughout the next few days.

FIU has a communication protocol to keep the community informed about university operations during emergencies, including storms. Please look for emails, follow FIU on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and check FIU News and monitor local media for updates.

Storm preparation may be a new experience for many members of our university community. For tips on what to do, please visit the FIU Department of Emergency Management website or Miami-Dade County’s Hurricane Guide.
