Career Management Services welcomes staff members.

Career Management Services (CMS) has expanded its expertise with three new employees.

Naomi Hutchinson-Salazar is administrative coordinator.

“I appreciate data and measuring tools. It’s intriguing for me.”

So says Naomi Hutchinson-Salazar, administrative coordinator,  in the College of Business at Florida International University (FIU).

Another interest: entrepreneurship. In fact, Hutchinson-Salazar hopes to establish a physical therapy private practice. She holds a doctorate in physical therapy from the School of Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri; and a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from the University of Michigan. To add to her background, she is considering FIU’s Healthcare MBA.

In addition to inputting survey results and handling other data management tasks, she enjoys helping students, recruiters and employers become acclimated to FIU Business, and she describes Career Link—the business school’s database for job postings, internship opportunities, workshops, résumé critiques and much more—as amazing.

Jairo Ledesma joins CMS as assistant director.

Jairo Ledesma, assistant director, CMS, comes to the college after two-and-a-half years at FIU Career Services.

“Someone told me that CMS was expanding, and the opportunity to be part of that growth was important to me,” said Colombian-born Ledesma, who has worked in higher education for more than a decade.

Among his responsibilities he will engage students, specifically international business majors MIS and undecided business students; be the liaison to several student organizations; and help organize workshops and career events.

Drawn to South Florida because of the climate and laidback atmosphere, he worked out of Miami for the non-profit Inroads, Inc. as well as at Miami Dade College and Barry University. He holds two degrees from St. John’s University in New York, New York: a Bachelor of Science in communications and a Master of Arts in sociology.

Lauren Shalom is employee relations coordinator.

Lauren Shalom serves as an administrative coordinator specializing in employer relations. She develops employer relationships, approves job postings and coordinates the schedules for employers seeking to conduct on-campus interviews and information sessions. She also manages any employer issues with Career Link.

Shalom brings with her two years of customer service and sales experience and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from the University of Florida.

“The best part of my role is when students come back in the office ecstatic that they just landed their dream job,” she said. “It really makes you see the big picture.”
