FIU welcomes Healthcare MBA China Cohort 3.

This month, Joyce J. Elam, executive dean, College of Business, traveled to Guangzhou China to welcome the third cohort of students under the College of Business’ Dual Degree agreement with Southern Medical University (SMU). SMU students study at SMU for one year, then travel to Florida International University (FIU) to complete FIU’s Healthcare MBA (HCMBA).

A group from FIU met with students who will pursue a Healthcare MBA at FIU after a year of study in China.

The event was the opening ceremony for the thirty students beginning their studies at SMU; they will arrive at FIU in August 2013 to complete the requirements of the HCMBA degree.

Elam was joined by Nancy Borkowski, executive director, health management programs; and Weidong Xia, who teaches health information systems courses. The contingent also included two alumni from the first SMU group who completed their HCMBA at FIU during the summer of 2012.

In August 2012, the college welcomed the 14 students from the second SMU cohort, who arrived in Miami to start their one year of study at FIU.

Interesting note: the second cohort is made up of 13 females and one male.
