Chris Ellis, instructor, was featured in Florida’s MBA professors are pushing the limits, an article in the March issue of Florida Trend.

Department of Finance

On March 27, 2013, John Zdanowicz, professor, spoke about combating international crime to a delegation of African government officials. The event was part of the U.S Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, organized by the Miami Council of International visitors.

Department of Management and International Business

Jerry Haar, professor and research fellow, was quoted in three articles in March: “For Venezuelans, a long history in South Florida,” which appeared on March 9th in The Miami Herald; “Miami pushes global hub in luring Latin American companies,” on Bloomberg.com on March 14th; and “Investing in U.S. Century Bank in Miami is more like a family affair,” in The Miami Herald on March 17th.

On March 28, 2013, Modesto Maidique, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership, was recognized by Miami Today as a Miami Living Legend in recognition of his impact on the Miami community as president of FIU for 23 years, the way he has helped to transform Miami and the continuity of his achievements and contributions to the metropolis.  On March 19th, he and the CFL hosted Mary Uhl-Bien, Professor and Howard Hawks Chair in Business Ethics and Leadership at the University of Nebraska, as part of The Leadership Lecture series presented by the Center for Leadership. More than 100 community leaders and FIU faculty, staff and alumni attended. And from March 12-15, he hosted 24 CEOs and C-Suite executives from across South Florida for the Center for Leadership’s (CFL) fifth Leading Decisions program. He was the sole interviewee in a Fox Business article titled “Not Everyone Needs to Work in an Office to be Productive,” which appeared on March 4th.

Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate

William Hardin, director of real estate programs and Tibor and Sheila Hollo research fellow, participated in an-depth Q&A, titled “Housing recovery: where do we stand,” which appeared on Bankrate.com on March 26, 2013 and subsequently on Fox Business.

Ken H. Johnson, associate professor and Tibor and Sheila Hollo Research Fellow, was quoted in a number of articles that appeared in the Sun Sentinel and other outlets in March: “Fast rising home prices stir fears of another bubble,” on March 3rd; “Foreclosures may ease shortage of homes for sale,” which also ran in the online version of Bloomberg Businessweek online also ran, on March 17th; and   “Short sale stigma alive and well, study finds,” on March 18th. This article drew from a co-authored study by Johnson, which was also the subject of a March 19th article titled “For homes that aren’t short sales, language in listing is key.”
