Serving as judges for the FIU Track of the Miami Herald Business Plan Challenge were Associate Professor Karlene Cousins (Department of Decision Sciences and Information System), Professor Seema Pissaris (Department of Management and International Business) and Associate Professor Kimberly A. Taylor (Department of Marketing).

Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems

Min Chen, assistant professor, spoke on “What a Physician’s Role Will Be in a Post ACA-World” for a group of healthcare professionals at Grand Rounds at the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine on March 18, 2015.

Monica Tremblay, associate professor and department chair, was a guest on the Pete De La Torre Radio Program on March 12, 2015, discussing women in business.

Department of Management and International Business

Ronald Gilbert, clinical professor, co-authored “Relational Behavior of Leaders: A Comparison by Vocational Context” which is in the May 2015 issue of the Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies.

Jerry Haar, professor, was elected a Fellow at the annual meeting of the Business Association of Latin American Studies in San Juan, Puerto Rico, March 25-27, 2015. He is the second to be named by the organization. Also, Haar wrote an op-ed column “Florida sees big benefits from stem cell research” for the Sun-Sentinel on March 20, 2015.

Nathan Hiller, associate professor, was quoted in an article “Why Job Promotions Fail” by William Atkinson which appeared in Human Resources Executive on March 30, 2015.

Modesto A. Maidique, FIU President Emeritus and eminent scholar, and Fred Walumbwa, associate professor, were among the co-authors of an article entitled “Decision-Making in a Crisis: What Every Leader Needs to Know” published in a recent edition of Organizational Dynamics.

Samantha C. Paustian-Underdahl, assistant professor, presented “Gender and the Workplace – The Great Divide” at the American College of Healthcare Executives: 2015 Congress on Healthcare Leadership held March 17, 2015 in Chicago, Illinois.

Seema Pissaris, professor, was part of a panel discussion on “Demystifying Social Entrepreneurship and How Non-Profits Can Use It” at Philanthropy Miami 2015 on March 5, 2015.

Dileep Rao, clinical professor, spoke on “Entrepreneurship 2.0: The Future of Venture Development” at the Munich Business School in Munich, Germany on March 13, 2015.

Department of Marketing

Rafael Soltero, visiting instructor, conducted a panel discussion “Motivating a Sales Team: When uncomfortable becomes comfortable” at the Perry Ellis Annual Sales Meeting held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Doral, Florida on March 18, 2015.

An article by Senior Instructor Cecilia M. Alvarez-Ortiz, Senior Lecturer Nancy A. Rauseo and Associate Professor Kimberly A. Taylor has been accepted for publication in the Fall 2015 issue of MER (Marketing Education Review). The article is entitled “Creating Thoughtful Salespeople: Experiential Learning to Improve Critical Thinking Skills in Traditional and Online Sales Education.”

Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate

William G. Hardin III, director, was quoted in a front-page Miami Herald article by Nicholas Nehamas entitled “Report: Downtown condo market to cool down” which appeared on March 2, 2015.
