Faculty Notes: August 2010

Department of Management and International Business

A paper titled “Knowledge Accumulation and Dissemination in MNEs: A Practice-Based Framework,” by Aya Chacar, assistant professor, and a colleague, has been accepted for publication in Journal of Management Studies, a high-quality journal.

Ed Glab, clinical professor of business and international and public affairs, continues to be tapped by the media for his expertise on the oil leak. He has done approximately 30 interviews in Spanish since the spill began in April 2010, and several in English, most recently on August 26, 2010 for News.NTN24.com.

Jerry Haar, associate dean for international programs, professor and research fellow, was appointed chair of the Global Intelligence & International Business Development Group of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) for 2010-2010. Maria Alonso, incoming GMCC chair, and Barry Johnson, president of the Chamber, made the appointment. Haar was quoted in an article titled “Lift Embargo on Cuba? Not So Fast,” which appeared in the Boston Globe on August 25, 2010.

Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems

Monica Chiarini Tremblay, assistant professor; Kaushik Dutta, associate professor; and Debra VanderMeer, assistant professor, have had their article “Using Data Mining Techniques to Discover Bias Patterns in Missing Data” accepted by the high-quality journal ACM Journal of Data and Information Quality.

Department of Finance and Real Estate

Deanne Butchey, lecturer and assistant dean, assurance of learning and accreditation, was interviewed on “Pulse,” on WPBT Channel 2 on the housing crisis in South Florida. The interview aired on August 22 and August 26, 2010.

School of Accounting

Kenneth Henry, clinical associate professor, was one of three panelists at the Florida International Bankers Association (FIBA) operations committee breakfast program on August 26, 2010. The topic was “Outsourcing IT Services—Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70 and Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) No.16.”
