Alumni Notes: December 2011

An article titled Surviving the declining housing market by Gary Opper (MS ’83), CPA and managing member of Levie-Opper, LLC, was published in Scotsman Guide’s residential issue in November.

Monique Hamaty-Simmonds (BBA ’96), president and CEO, Tortuga Rum Cake Co. was featured in an article in the South Florida Business Journal titled Tortuga rum cake company cooks up deal to grow.

Jeffrey Zelaya (BBA ’11) and Emma Liger (BBA ’09) were married on December 4, 2011.

Maria Beltran (MSHRM ’11) was offered a six-month position with Disney as an employee relations intern.

In Memoriam

Marcia Perl Kreisberg (BACC ’98) died peacefully in hospice care at home on December 2, 2011, seven and a half years after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Born in Miami on December 25, 1950, she graduated from Miami Coral Park Senior High in 1968 and from Florida International University with an undergraduate degree in accounting in 1998. She was the office manager at International Design Concepts and was part of the String of Perls—her extended family of numerous aunts, uncles and cousins—and had a special relationship with her cousin Susan. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Perl, and her younger brother Ed Perl. She is survived by her son Aaron Glickman; husband Julian Kreisberg and their son Alec as well as her mother, Miriam Perl; sister Ronna Weiss; sister-in-law Cheryl Perl; nephews Jake, Zack and Kyle; and sister-in-law Deena (Mark) Zarlin and niece and nephew Jenais and Elijah.
