Number of firsts enhance already successful EPE program.

Executive and Professional Education (EPE) in the College of Business at Florida International University (FIU) has successfully run Inbound Study Tours for graduate students from Universidad ESAN, Peru over the past three years. The non-credit module exposes students to an American university campus experience, enables them to interact with faculty members and local business leaders, and provides them with the opportunity to visit companies and organizations.

From May 6-10, 2013, 31 MBA students—all managers—participated in the latest residency. It was the third to focus on international business; international finance was the subject of a program in February 2013.

ESAN MBA students participated in a May residency at FIU focused on international business.

New features expand program’s value.

Though the program has a proven record, the May offering included several new elements.

For the first time, the group was able to pay site visits to Compass Office Solutions, whose co-owner and co-founder Jose Manuel Diaz (BBA ’86), is a new inductee into the college’s Hall of Fame; Hispanic Group, a member of the Peruvian American Chamber of Commerce; and Visa, Inc.

Seema Pissaris, who teaches in the college’s Department of Management and International Business, opened the program with the first-ever formal orientation session. She challenged the participants to become transformative learners by the end of their stay.

Also, for the first time, Amelia Maguire, the new executive director of management development, addressed the group as part of the closing ceremony protocol.

ESAN became a member of the college’s Dual Degree network in 2010.
